The Revolution Of Ugandan Music 4th Edition With Hope Mukasa Part 2

0
Hope Mukasa Into Music And His Family

Hope Mukasa’s talent was so evident and that saw him become so popular but then Uganda was at a crumble, lots of wars. So that Prompted HOPE MUKASA to leave the country for Sweden in1983.
In Sweden Hope Mukasa met his fellow Ugandan friends, famous bassist Sammy Kasule and Philly Bongole Lutaya (RIP) they all had one thing that they loved passionately and that was music. They all got together and formed a band called SAVANNAH, all of them were good instrumentalist, and they toured the Scandinavia countries playing in nite spots and auditoriums, that they made a name for themselves, this even made them more popular back in Uganda and all Ugandan communities in the Diaspora.

Hope mukasa who produced his album MADE IN UGANDA in 1988with a song called If only, one of the few songs by Ugandans in the 80s that had a video and the song became so popular on the Ugandan radio and television back then.
Then when Hope Mukasa’s close friend Philly Bongole Lutaya became sick, it was a turning point for his life, having known him for so long and seeing him go through that pain till his death, its was one of the hardest times. Hope Mukasa even recorded a song in memory of his great friend.
On the contrally all that experience made Hope Mukasa look at life with in a more positive way. Hope was in his early 30s, he had his fiance Sheena to whom he is married to, and they have 5 beautiful children, ASHA, MARVIN, SABRINA, KEZI and KEZIA.

HOPE MUKASA who had lived and worked in Sweden felt that it was time to get back to Uganda and develop the Ugandan music industry. He had set his own studio in Stockholm and he returned to Uganda in 1988.
When Uganda artists lacked professional studio equipment. Hope Mukasa came back and set up a well professional studio that he set up in what one can call a complex in his home at the out skirts of Kampala city at a place called Lungujja where he resides till today. Then it was one studio of its kind that saw all artists back then come to see that they get the best quality of the time. By then if you wanted quality sound, you had to take your music to be mastered in Europe or any other place but not Uganda, but after Hope’s BAVA studio that was all history. BAVA that he says comes from BAVAWALA a name of his fathers and a name Hope gave to his son MARVIN.  Next:Part 3   Previous Part 1

The Revolution Of Ugandan Music 4th Edition With Hope Mukasa Part 1

Hope Mukasa, A True Revolutionarist In The Uganda Music Industry
In our past edition we have talked about some of the individuals who have made a significant contribution to the development of Ugandan music and in the past we have talked about people like The legendary Philly Bongole Lutaya (RIP), Jimmy katumba (RIP) and the legendary Gospel group limit x.
Today we continue to find people that some of you the young generation may have never known but these people truly opened doors for some of the people we see and admire.

In the past Edition some of the people who we never got the opportunity to meet, but for this particular gentleman, HiPipo.com had to make all means to see that we got an interview from Hope Mukasa. And I can say this felt legendary, talking to someone you know he has seen it all happen, from the time when we had one or two studios in the whole city to the time where digital programming is the order of the day, from the time when an artist owning a car was a big deal to the present day where we have the likes of Chameleone, Bobi and the rest who own mansions and a fleet of cars in their yards.

This is HOPE MUKASA a legend in the making, Thanks God we can talk good about him when he is still alive, Born in 1958 August 28th (same day like the king of Pop Michael Jackson RIP). Both his parents had the name Mukasa, though his mother was of the mamba clan and father was from the Ngabi Clan of  Buganda kingdom and his mother was daughter of the famous Ham Mukasa of Buganda and most famous in Mukono district.

HOPE MUKASA attended Aunt Claire kindergarten and he later joined Nakasero primary school from Primary 1 to P 7, by then Nakasero was dominated by foreigners, especially children from the white European society that lived in Uganda, Hope remembers that there were very few pupils who were Africans or blacks and some of the notable names are Ham Mulira (former Ugandan ICT minister),Allan Shonubi (a prominent lawyer today), the children of the famous Ssenteza, all those were among the few Ugandan kids that attended Nakasero primary school then.

After his Primary 7, Hope Mukasa didn’t perform well, he confesses that, his time in Nakasero primary school was all about having fun, parties, so he didn’t mind about school, that prompted his mother to take him to Mengo Primary Sschool, where his mother assigned the head teacher then Mrs. Gladys Wambuzi to cane him, if he messed up, because all Hope’s mum wanted was Hope Mukasa to get the grades to Kings’ college Budo.

This time he became serious with books and made it to Kings’ College  Budo, In Budo his love for music increased and it was so evident, just in his senior one, Hope and his friend Allan Shonubi broke the record to be the first juniors in Senior 1 to join the school band, usually the tradition was the juniors always carried instruments for the seniors in the higher classes, they never played, but these two played in the band, and by the time HOPE MUKASA was in Senior 4, he was the school band leader.

In Budo Hope Mukasa remembers that he met people like Peter Sematimba (LC 3 Chairman in Rubaga division of Kampala City, owner of Super fm& Pastor) though he was some classes below him, Andrew kasirye and many prominent people today. After his Senior 4, Hope left Kings College Budo, and joined Aga khan.

In Aga khan he was even close to the city that made him focus on music more, Hope Mukasa  played with some bands and he was the lead singer with Ugandan legendary singer ELLY WAMALA’s band the mascoats and in 1981 he started up his first band called MIXED TALENT.  Part 2 Hope Mukasa

Ugandan Artist Show Their Worth At BEANIEMAN’s Concert.

0

Find Out All That Happened At Bennieman's Concert In Uganda

Most concerts that always host international foreign artists in Uganda, rarely call for many Ugandan artists to share the same stage with their international counterparts, promoters always invite less than 4 artist to perform like open acts for the foreign acts, though this was not the same on the just concluded KING OF DANCEHALL CONCERT dubbed the CHAMUKA KEYS PROMOTIONS GRAND FINALE by crown beverages company that took place on the 5th of Dec 2010. The long waited concert saw almost all the credited talents Uganda has ever got in what you will call urban Ugandan music share the same stage with the acclaimed King of dancehall BEANIEMAN.

The show that attracted a mammoth crowd at the Kyadondo rugby ground in Kampala with long cues at the entrance even included the Ugandan artists themselves, who not only performed but for some came over to make a statement.

The show that started an hour late than the anticipated time 7pm, though no one complained, saw some of the best people in this industry perform, the MCs of the day that included J Kazoora a celebrated TV presenter, Kats one of Kampala’s American waanabe, Mosh, some comedian who kept his jokes about Ugandan musicians started the show rolling, with Number one spinner Dj Shiru spinning the Cds.

Gift a new talent from goodlyfe crew did his biggest track traffic officer, Cindy, AK 47 chameleone’s young brother,Vamposs, Kid fox a.k.a King Steven who proved that he’s a veteran in this dancehall business,Micheal Ross, Peter miles and his right hand man Meshan, some dancers came up in all the break intervals led by Antonio a celebrated cheographer,HB Toxic,Rabadaba the new crown prince in dancehall who even the MC Kazoora kept saying that the brother is going to have a big year in 2010 in the music industry, Navio dressed in designer  black Kanzu and his Klear Kut crew Myth, Unique & Don who put up an exhilarating performance and the response was felt from the screams by the ladies, Moses Radio and Weasel I know you all love their songs, sung Bread n butter and their other songs though they got so much applauded when they did their new chat rising hit Ability That features  Rabadaba, and you could tell their fans feeling them.

Blu 3 who brought their sexy appeal on the stage that left most guys pocketing, though to save the best for last the big 3 had not performed yet but people still wanted more, and the MC told the crowd that BEANIE MAN wanted to see all best Uganda could offer, with introduction of the Ghetto President Bobi Wine brought wild cheers, that saw him come with some of the members of his Fire base crew, Casanova and kabaya, with his monster hit Badman from kamwokya,Carolina and Ayagala mulasi which was a crowd favorite, he even invited his Vice President Buchaman who put up an a very good freestyle performance that called for Bobiwine to remind him it was not their show and its Beanie’s concert, so they need not to kill anyone, his performance showed the Bobiwine is a true stronghold in this music industry, he even took time to tell to whoever listened that his fellow President(meaning M7) says, that its only  stupid dogs that can back at a lion, I guess aiming that to his competitors, but he still honoured BEANIEMAN as the only true doctor and KING OF DANCEHALL MUSIC in the world, and he went on to say he has been a great inspiration to him, ever since he was a little F***** young boy, he too acknowledged Ugandan musicians, after him it was turn for Bebecool to show that he was  master of the stage and  he didn’t disappoint, clad in a very clean white and blue pair of shorts with a matching shirt, he stormed the stage with his Kube hit with his Gangamel crew members backing him, and he meant business when he sung Agenze and Bogolako that drove even the crowd so wild, with his accelerating performance that even made his fans say that he has been the best performer of the day, it was past 11pm and Beanieman had not come yet, but no one complained about the Ugandan acts.

Then it was time for the Doctor himself East African crowner Jose Chameleone, who by that time had got everyone get the rumour that he has recorded a song with Beanieman by the Mcs, since he was given the opportunity amongst all Ugandan artists to be the closest to Beanieman as long as Bennie stayed in Uganda that saw him even move him in his suv escalade car. To be different from the previous performers, he had Beanie’s band play a semi live band for him, clad in a red baseball cap, red shirt and black pants with his huge Leone Island crew backing him, Chameleone started by singing chemeleology then bayuda and his monster track Vumilia that saw the crowd sing along, though he didn’t perform as everyone expected but will excuse him, maybe he had been kept busy by Beanieman as his care taker.

After Chameleone’s show, he took time to honour the King for dancehall who we agree, his friends with now, and Chameleone asked the whole crowd to put their hands up  for the KING OF DANCEHALL Music Beanieman as he came up to do his show.

IF beanieman and his crew and everyone who watched the Ugandan acts for the first time, they will agree with HiPipo.com that, it’s only a matter of time that, our acts will be on the world entertainment map lifting the Ugandan and East African flag high all thanks Music.

In his new music tune, the Ugandan superstar and Republic of Uganja /Ghetto President H.E Bobi Wine this time round tells us about a dream that he had about Uganda the Pearl Of Africa.
The song sounds political Basing on the names that he mentioned in the song Kirooto. Names like Jose Chameleone, Pastor Kayanja, Pastor Ssempa, President Yoweri Museveni, Hon John Ken Lukyamuzi “The Man “, Dr.Kizza Besigye, Sheik Mubajje, Sheik Kayongo and many others.

In The Kirooto, The Ghetto President sees Uganda reuniting and growing with no limits, The Ghetto President talks about the Hope he dreamt about seeing The poor getting very rich, The Sick getting well, The political rivals working together for a new and better Uganda.
Bobi Wine emphasizes a word “Kisooboka “A Luganda Term used to Mean it’s Possible. This message in Kirooto also goes on to the people in the Ghetto, The Drunkards, the Drug Users and all those that are not living a happy life today.

Toolman out with new video:

0

After accomplishing two houses plus opening up a sole business in Kyebando, this year is not about to end for the kisumuluzo legend. Last month, Toolman released two good videos and the most prolific one was Gutujja shot by Centrix. As I write, a new classy video tittled Nasolo from the Kyebando boy is already out and receiving a lot of air play on local stations. When you flash back to videos like Kisumuluzo and then compare them with the new videos such as Gutujja and Nasolo, you indeed see a totally new and transformed Toolman. He has not only changed his style of music but has also invested big sums in the production of quality videos that will help him compete favorably in the currently tight Uganda music industry.

Bobi and Bebe just superb.

0

To all of you out there that thought Dr.chameleone was the only power house of Uganda’s music, I believe that is in history. The just concluded Agenze versus Carolina launches were an eye opener that revealed to us who is who Uganda wise. Chameleone who was expected to perform on both concerts at kyadondo and Africana never turned up to any all because of serious commitments he had in Europe. The news of his absence became popular in the last five days to the shows and thus many observers predicted the Bebe and Bobi were to make some losses due to the absence of the Chameleone factor. However on Friday none of these briefs come to be proved as both Ghetto president and Munene Munene managed to do very well with out the heavy weight doctor. Other artists that were seen on either Bobi wine of Bebe cool banners but never made it to the concerts were Goodlife crew, GNL Zamba and Juliana Kanyomozi.
