On Saturday, Big Music Uganda’s CEO also reigning winner of the prestigious HiPipo Music Awards Best Afropop song accolade Big Eye Starboss aka Stage King held an extremely successful Nkuziniremu Self Contained Concert at La Grande Hotel Bwaise. This was his second concert after another successful one (Ekikumi Physically Fit concert) held on Friday 15th August 2014 at Freedom City.
At the show, the venue was parked to the brim and hundreds remained outside as they couldn’t get in. Many were seen standing on raised grounds outside the hotel including Bwaise Northern Bypass flyover in order to catch a glimpse of what was happening inside.
Bebe Cool’s proclamation prior to the concert came to pass. He had posted that “This is a Big Eye weekend” and indeed it was a Big Eye weekend. Ugandan music fans turned up and showered the Tusasanya star with true love.
The show kicked off at around 8PM with several performances from young and upcoming artistes. These were followed by Solid Band performance and then over 20 established artistes.
These included Aziz Azion, Hassan Nduga, Jackie Kizito of Mayumba Kumi fame, Pallaso, Chris Evans, Nubian Li, Mike Wine, Bobi Wine, Mesach Semakula, Geoffrey Lutaaya, Irene Namatovu, Nutty Neithan, Mary Bata, Big Chief and Dr Jose Chameleone. At around 1:00am (Sunday morning), Sasha Brighton rumored to be Big Eye’s girlfriend stepped on stage and performed her fans favorite So Lucky single. She was immediately followed by the host of the night Big Eye Starboss.
Supported by Solid band, Big Eye performed all his major songs since his breakthrough in 2009. These included Indicator, Going Higher, Already Booked, Phone Busy, Ekikumi, Physically Fit, Tusasanya, Self-Contained and Nkuziniremu among others.
At around 2am, the show was over and the fans started to look for their way out.
Dixon Okello was in charge of stage security and did a great job while Uganda Police ably managed the overall in and outside security.
Save for a few sound hitch ups, so talkative MCs and having the fans to wait for so long before Big Eye stepped on stage, Nkuziniremu Self Contained was a massive show. In fact with over 5000 fans, this show set a new record for La Grande Hotel.
Congs Big Eye and Big Music Uganda for a job well done.
