Ekiggunda Ky’Omwaka succesfully took place yesterday ending at a few minutes past mid night for the first time since it was started. This was in line with Kampala Capital City Authority’s new regulations that don’t allow events held in public open places to go past midnight. Due to this new policy, several musicians including Moses Radio and Weasel were unable to perform.
Organised by Radio Simba and sponsored by MTN Uganda, this event attracted thousands of locals and hosted a cocktail of more than 70 musicians of different genres. Each fan left content with the performances since almost all genres were represented. From Dancehall, Hip-hop, Kidandali, RnB to gospel and Kadongo Kamu.
Performances ranged from Sam and Sophie Gombya, Rocky Giant, City Rock Entertainment, Golden Band, to Big Size, Gagamel President, Bebe Cool.
Team No Sleep female diva, Sheeba proved to be the best female musician at the moment. When she was introduced on stage, the crowd was sent in frenzy. One would literally hear revelers chanting, and shouting their lungs out. She performed her latest songs rocking the airwaves, from Twesana, Jordan, Ice Cream to Mundongo featuring Pallaso.
Sejjusa singer, MunG on the other hand turned his performance into a dance session. It was a performance to remember. He sang and danced to his hit songs ‘Sejjusa’ and ‘Virgin’, eventually leaving the stage wet with sweat. King Saha worked the crowd with his latest ‘Mulirwana’ hit single.
Earlier on, Bebe Cool and his Gagamel band gave the fans an evening to remember with a clean touch of live wire music all the way.
For the first time in as many years, Ekiggunda 2014 was not interrupted by rain. The rain clouds came and left with not even a single drizzle.
Nakivubo was filled to capacity throughout the day, a fact that up to date keeps this event has one, if not biggest on Uganda entertainment annual calendar.
