On Friday, Ghetto President Bobi Wine published a message on his Facebook page about the good worldwide publicity that the Queen of Katwe movie was bringing for Uganda.
In the same post, he informed his followers that; “My song with Nubian Li called #NdiMunaUganda is the first song you will hear when the movie starts. It plays over the Disney logo.”
This post was followed with a lot of hullaballoo from the audience both online and offline. Many understood the post while others totally misunderstood Bobi Wine’s post.
To reemphasize, Bobi Wine clearly noted that “am the only artiste to have a song featured on the Soundtrack that wasn’t in the film. All songs on the sound track were in the film.
Our sources have revealed that the Queen of Katwe full soundtrack will be ‘released on September 23, 2016 by Walt Disney Records. Currently, it is available for pre-order on Amazon.”
Queen of Katwe received its world premiere at Roy Thompson Hall on Saturday 10th September during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The film, which is based on the vibrant true story of a young girl – Phiona Mutesi, from the streets of Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, stars David Oyelowo, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and newcomer Madina Nalwanga and is directed by Mira Nair.
An email titled ‘Save the Date’ reads; “The Walt Disney Company Africa invites you to Save the Date for the Special Event Screening and Press Events of Queen of Katwe in Kampala on 1 – 2 October 2016.”
It is expected to start showing in Ugandan cinemas on the Independence weekend starting 7th October.
