One of the most expected music awards, which is broadcast in almost all countries of the world – is the Grammy. Grammy was born on March 14, 1958, just 80 years since the invention of the gramophone. Thus, the main prize of this ceremony is a small golden gramophone. Grammy is given not only to singers and groups but also to sound producers, arrangers, conductors, composers. Many singers gained their popularity precisely because of this award. During the history of the award, world legends such as Michael Jackson, the Irish band U2, have become winners. In 2019, the track «This Is America» by Childish Gambino gain the title of the best song, while Kasey Musgraves was awarded for the best album of the year.

American Music Awards
The main competitor of the Grammy is the famous American Music Awards, established in 1974. The laureates of this award are the singers who achieved the greatest commercial success in the USA: they sold more CDs, had more broadcasts on TV, received large profits from concert tours, etc. Winners are selected by independent voting, which is held among ordinary Americans. In 1983, Michael Jackson has received 8 awards, which is the highest result at those days. In 2018, Tailor Swift took home four awards, surpassing Whitney Houston’s record of 21 trophies, and setting a new AMA record for most wins by a female of all time, 23!

Brit Awards

In England, the most famous one is the Brit Awards, which has been established in 1977. It is awarded to the best English and Foreign vocalists in completely different genres. BRIT is also famous for its winners. Thus, the famous singer Robbie Williams received 11 British awards. In 2019, among BRIT nominees there are George Ezra, Jess Glynne, Little Mix, Mabel, Dua Lipa, and others.

Polar Music Prize
The King of Sweden himself grants the Polar Music Prize annually in Stockholm. The laureates receive the award “For outstanding achievements in the field of music.” This prize is also called the Nobel Music Prize, and it is named after the famous label “Polar Music” that recorded world known band ABBA.

However, there are also famous prizes in Africa: among them, there are MTV Africa Music Awards, All Africa Music Awards, and of course HiPipo Music Awards.
