Newcomer Madina Nalwanga continues to reap big from her very first film role in Disney’s Queen of Katwe movie. The latest benefit is her nomination for best young actor/actress in the 2017 Critic’s Choice Awards announced on 1st December 2016. She faces competition from five other equally talented nominees.
While congratulating her upon this maiden nomination, Oscar Academy Award winner also actress in Queen of Katwe Lupita Nyong’o from Kenya posted:
“My darling on-screen daughter, Madina Nalwanga just got nominated for a Critics’ Choice Awards for best young actor/actress for her role in Queen of Katwe!!!! Her very first film, her very first nomination! Congratulations, my love. #queening#MadinaNalwanga.”
According to the Awards organizers, ” This year’s awards, presented in partnership with Entertainment Weekly, will air live on Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. ET on A&E. Be sure to tune in early to catch the Critics’ Choice Awards Nomination Special at 6 p.m. ET and the Critics’ Choice Red Carpet Live at 7 p.m.”

Madina is a life member of Sosolya Undugu Dance Academy and it is from here that Queen of Katwe Director Mira Nair spotted and added her to the Queen of Katwe cast.
Sosolya Undugu Dance Academy is a group of young, talented and energetic artists who came together to organize themselves for a common cause. They now consist over 300members (aged 5 – 18) who are trained by 15 professionals who are former beneficiaries of the same project in the traditional arts of the different cultures of Uganda and the great lakes region.
