Talent Africa has released a major Hip Hop project that unites 14 of the Uganda top rappers. Its called the UG CPYHER and it was officially released at Club Silk last Thursday. The UG Cypher is a 360 degree project that features a song, a music video, a mini documentary, clothing line and the live event which took place at Silk Lounge.
A cypher is in the world of hip hop a underground song where all the rappers perform on the same beat trying to out do each other with their personal style, lyrics, flow and creativity. It is a showcase of individual artistic ability and talent. The first edition of the UG Cypher featured Navio, Keko, Mith, JB, Ruyonga, Tucker HD, Llyboc, Flex D Paper, Big Tril, GNL Zamba, Don MC, DJ Global, St Nelly Sade and Atlas. Talent Africa managed to get all these personalities on one project even though there has been a lot apparent beef in the hip hop industry in the last few years.
The UG Cypher was entirely sponsored and produced by Talent Africa to support Ugandan Hip Hop and give it international exposure. The audio production was by Sam Lamara and the video was directed by Dayo Atarodo from Nigeria all from the Talent Africa Studios.
The UG Cypher launch event was a celebration of Uganda hip hop music. It was well attended by the entire hip hop industry and many other celebrities and socialites. The event was hosted by McKenzie who did a great job of interacting with the rappers and audience throughout the night. Apart from the rappers; notable attendees included Victoria Kimani (Kenya), Bebe Cool, Zuena, Sue Ochola, Judith Heard, Sean Ndawula, Gareth Onyango, Nickita Bachu, Roger Mugisha, Benon, Vampino and numerous media personalities. Silk Lounge and Ocean were packed to capacity and people went into a frenzy when the all the rappers took the stage to perform the live rendition of Cypher.
Talent Africa CEO Aly Allibhai states “It was amazing to see all these talented rapper come together on massive project. They proved Hip Hop is very alive in Uganda!” On the same night Aly Allibhai also announced that Talent Africa will be launching the first ever Uganda Hip Hop Awards later this year.
