Iryn Namubiru was last night crowned the 2011 Pearl of Africa Music Awards’ Artist of the year, making her the second female singer to have ever won this top accolade ever since PAM started nine years back. The other female singer who won PAM Artist of the year was Juliana Kanyomozi in 2008. To win this, Iryn Namubiru beat tight competition from Angella Kalule, Bebe Cool and Jose Chameleone. She also won album of the year (Birowoozo), Female artist of the year and RnB single of the year (Birowoozo).
In her acceptance speech, Iryn Namuviru said that "2011 has been a ladies' year and the PAM Awards grand finale was a girls night"
Bebe Cool, the 2010 PAM artist of the year went home with two accolades for best male artist and best Reggae artist. At the event, Bebe Cool thanked PAM Awards organizers and said that “this is the biggest event in the country and all musicians must respect it".
Angella Kalule was another big name winning two accolades for Song of the year and best live band single(Katikitiki). This success is tremendous for her because it has been in this year that Angella Kalule has become popular across all music lovers.
Chameleone and Goodlyfe each won one award for Afro beat artist and Afro beat single(Talk and Talk) respectively while Bobi Wine left empty handed for the second year in a row.
Chris Evans won new artist/ group of the year as Doctor Hilderman won Gospel single of the year (Ebita Ebikute).
Roger Mugisha, Dave Kazoora and Straka Baibe were the MCs of the night at this colourful event held at UMA hall Lugogo.
