Doreen Faith was born on 11th of November 1986 in Uganda where she did her nursery and primary education from. In the late 90’s she moved to the UK where she has settled and been living since then.
Doreen Faith is a 2010 graduate with a combined BA Honours degree in Fashion Design & Marketing obtained from London College of Fashion, one of the best and most recognised fashion institutions in the world.
Doreen reminisces that from an early age that she has always been immersed in fashion which has influenced her to pursue higher education studies in fashion. Her fascination with the technique behind the structure of dressmaking began whilst studying at university as a design student where she has developed a strong skill set for designing, pattern cutting and dress making techniques, all clearly visible in her artwork.
This ambitious and creative personality has enabled Doreen to keep working in the fashion industry and strongly believes that her creativity, entrepreneurial skills and experience would help her to build a successful career despite the fashion being one of the most competitive industries in the world.
Doreen Faith is an up-and-coming Ugandan-British fashion designer; she recently showcased a few dresses from her collection which she has been working on since August 2012. She was the only designer chosen by the Nile Diaspora International Film Festival committee to showcase her collection at the festival. Her involvement in the event was to introduce her to the Ugandan audience as a designer and promote her women’s wear label called-DARE which will be based online in the UK from autumn / winter 2013 or spring 2014.
“I thought that it would be a great opportunity to promote my label to my country of birth especially at this prestigious event. I have plans of opening DARE shops in Uganda and Africa in the future so part of the motive to why I got involved in this event was to expose my brand to the Ugandan audience”, explained Doreen Faith.
The Nile's Diaspora International Film Festival is a not-for-profit cultural organization that seeks to change the way people see the world through FILM. The film festival promises to promote cultural and artistic significant films and arts through education and exhibition to enlighten and entertain people.
The first event took place on the 7th– 15th of December 2012 and was launched at Sheraton hotel. The organisation held workshops in Kampala and different towns in Uganda followed by the closing ceremony which was held at the same venue and had special performances by Desire Luzinda and gospel singer Exodus.
Nadia Buari of Ghana and Jim Iyke of Nigeria were all presented with awards in different capacities. Omar Oyin Bala of the African Film Consortium who is also the film festival representative in West Africa attended the festival including Tonya Lee Williams of the young and restless and the CEO of Reelworld film festival in Canada.
This event gave people an opportunity to interact with Doreen Faith as well as other compatriots in the entertainment and media industry.
